About the Role

This is a part-time role (flexible FTE available (0.35–0.7), with potential to grow as the site expands) based at our Whangārei Hospital site. The Research Physician position requires a qualified general physician who is highly organised, a Team player and hopefully with research experience. This role offers a clear pathway to acting as a Principal Investigator, with strong support from an experience research team. There is also scope for involvement in collaborative group and investigator led research.

  • Qualified Medical Practitioner with a current practising certificate
  • Interest in, or experience with, clinical trials
  • Strong clinical judgement and patient assessment skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities

Role Description

This is a full time, on-site position based at our Whangārei Hospital site. The Research Associate will play a key role in supporting the coordination and conduct of clinical trials in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational protocols. Responsibilities include participant recruitment and follow-up, data collection, ensuring compliance with study protocols, and maintaining accurate documentation. The Research Associate will also collaborate with investigators, sponsors, and other team members to ensure the efficient execution of trials. This position would suit someone passionate about improving health outcomes who wants to grow a career in commercial clinical trials.

Qualifications/Attributes

  • Previous experience working in a research role preferable
  • Critical thinking, solutions orientated, problem solving mindset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient engagement and team collaboration
  • Priority setting and time management skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in a medical, clinical, or research setting is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, health sciences, or a related field preferred

Research Nurse - Middlemore Hospital

About the role

We are seeking experienced, confident Registered Nurses to join our clinical trials site on a casual basis, supporting the safe and effective conduct of commercial clinical research studies.

This role is well suited to nurses who are comfortable working autonomously and who value flexibility, professionalism, and high standards of clinical care.

As a Casual Nurse, you will:

  • Provide nursing oversight and participant care during clinical trial visits
  • Administer study procedures in accordance with protocols and SOPs
  • Monitor participant safety and manage clinical observations
  • Interact with wider trial team
  • Accurately document all study-related activities
  • Work independently in most instances you will be the only nurse on site
  • Be confident in your clinical abilities to decide when to manage a situation and when to escalate to the medical team
  • Shifts are predominantly evenings and nights, with occasional weekend work.

Please include your availability and suitability for working independently in a clinical research environment in your cover letter.

About you

Essential

  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current APC
  • Demonstrated confidence and competence working independently
  • Excellent clinical judgement and decision making skills
  • Ability to follow protocols and work within regulatory frameworks

Desired

  • Experience in commercial clinical trials or clinical research is an advantage, however, full training will be provided
  • ALS (Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Experience in acute care, research or high acuity environments
