Grant-Funded Research

ACTT supports investigator-led and collaborative research across hospital settings in Aotearoa, helping clinicians turn ideas into high-quality studies that improve patient care.

Grant Funded Trials

Funding model

ACTT operates a virtuous cycle model, where revenue from commercial trials helps support investigator-led and collaborative research. These funds are reinvested into departments to grow research capability and activity.

What is grant-funded clinical research?

Grant-funded trials play a key role in advancing clinical care and shaping future practice.

They provide opportunities to:

  • Address unmet clinical needs
  • Influence healthcare practice and policy
  • Expand access to treatments not otherwise available

Types of grant-funded trials

  • Investigator-initiated trials
Led by clinicians who design and develop their own research, with funding from grants, philanthropy, or departmental sources

  • Collaborative group trials
Delivered through national or international research networks, often with shared or locally supported funding
